Eric Barge: Owner and Lifelong Car Guy EM Motors began with a simple love of sports cars and auto racing.
Having owned many cars (including a Ferrari 308!) and racing competitively in the 1980's, Eric's passion runs deep. He understands first-hand what exotic and specialty car owners expect from an automobile - not only in terms of performance, but also aesthetics, design, and the total spine-chilling experience that only comes from driving high performance vehicles!
As a long-time engineer, Eric was well positioned to complete a lifelong dream of recreating childhood memories in the form of the EM578.
From Idea to Model, and Model to Reality We wanted to design and build a sports car that replicated the era that we loved so much, yet could be affordable and easy to own.
The EM578 started as a simple CAD model and was refined to it's present shape. Then, we "sliced" the CAD model into 93 cross sections. Each cross section, having its own blueprint, was created in plywood and bolted to the next until we had a full scale "buck". The buck was skinned, filled, and sanded, then molds were created. Once we had our body we set out to design the chassis, and after creating a jig to facilitate the design, the present chassis was created from the wheels in!
Now, with our prototype complete, we needed to find a location to manufacture the EM578. After much searching, we decided to build our own facility. Constructed as a purpose-built manufacturing facility, our shop lets us focus on building cars, and gives us lots of room to grow.
Focus on Values and Relationships Our family-owned business, proudly built from the ground up, is dedicated to a long future of providing our customers with the finest performance component vehicles available. We here at EM Motors look forward to seeing the smile on your face as you drive away in your new EM578!
